If you're at the top of your game and your craft is design, engineering, project management, quality assurance, writing, animating, scoring, or administering, (and this week - ontologies), read about how we work to see if there might be a fit here. If you like what you see, pass us your bio/cv/resume at resumes(at)civicactions.com (subject: "I want to help CA change the world") and we'll circulate it amongst our team. A little about us:

Henri Poole and Mike Gifford Talk About Open Business Models

Submitted by GregoryHeller on December 1, 2005 - 9:12pm.

While at the Web Of Change conference in September of 2005 I spent a fair amount of time talking to Mike Gifford of Open Concept Consulting about CivicActions and our business model and how it can be a model for new open source web development consultancies. Upon our returns to the real world, Mike wrote me with some questions, at that point I brought Henri Poole, one of the founders of CivicActions into the discussion. What follows is the text of a week or so of email messages between the 3 of us. I have edited for consistency and added clarifying remarks where necessary. Both Henri and Mike have taken a look and approved this version of the conversation.

Doing Well by Doing Good With Campaign Software

Henri Poole and his colleagues have formed a smoothly functioning creative community even though none of the collaborators has ever met all the others.

They have also found a way to get clients to pay them, even though their clients know that the product they’re paying for will be given away free to all who come later.

Think of Berkeley resident Poole and his colleagues at CivicActions as a collection of computer-savvy political wonks who’ve set out to transform politics from the grassroots up. Their website describes them as an Internet campaign consulting firm comprised of a network of leading technology and human relationship specialists. Poole ran Dennis Kucinich’s electronic campaign, and collaborator Dan Robinson ran Howard Dean’s national Meet-Up lists during the 2004 primaries.

This is an email from Henri Poole to colleagues on the Kucinich Campaign. This was sent on October 1, 2003. Many of these ideas are now available in the CivicActions tool suite.

I started working on this campaign with a goal of bringing millions of new supporters into our movement, and I describe below some of the projects that have been started (or we would like to start) and will need minimal energy in order to take off. I hope you can find a moment in your schedule to read.
