Alaska is the Earkmark State #1 per capita!! - IS THIS THING ON?

Submitted by Ian on September 8, 2008 - 10:50pm

Sarah Palin didn't care about Country First when she was running for governor extolling the praise of a certain corrupt Alaskan senator in bringing the country's common wealth to Alaska to be poured into the pockets of her chummy local contractors.

Open Source and the Argument for Opening the Debates

If there's a theme for this election, it's "Change". I actually don't think change is going to come. It's already here. It's a foregone conclusion that the White House will be "Differently Occupied" in January (how's that for PC?). Change has already happened and history has already been made. Welcome to the 21st century. Now let's get to the discussion about addressing the issues of our day.

The Palin Surprise

Submitted by Ian on September 3, 2008 - 10:25pm

I really can't temper my surprise at Palin's speech tonight. She delivered and delivered large for John McCain. Her image of a tough-talking hockey mom is hard to beat when it comes to an iconic figure to solidify the modern republican base and reach out to hometown American moms. It is no exaggeration to say that Palin made history tonight and seriously changed the race.

Third Party W(r)ench - Paris Swipes McCain. (NSFW)

Submitted by Ian on August 5, 2008 - 4:58pm

In May of last year, I wrote a blog entry called "Defending Paris" wherein I expressed compassion for her being locked up. I later wrote that I'd hoped that she'd see the light, have some kind of conversion experience and start speaking truth to power. (You could say I'm a dreamer...)

Well, today, Paris comes through - kinda. It's clearly a spoof and she definitely rehearsed the lines someone else wrote for her, but OMG - this was Hil-ARIOUS. But she responds to the McCain ad which tried to throw some mud on Obama's "celebrity" status. A ridiculous line of attack given McCain's own penchant for celebritizing.

(some strong language might not be suitable for a mindful workplace, not to mention, y'know... Paris in a swimsuit) (after the jump...)

Support the Warrior, Not The War.

I just returned from visiting my sister in North Carolina. She's an 18 year veteran of the Marines, worked her way through the enlisted ranks and is now an officer. Coming from a family long in distinguished military service, not to mention the ongoing challenges of being a female Marine, I'm very proud of her.

350 without words

350.org just relaunched their website and a killer video that explains the 350 idea without a word. Good for multilingual explications. Don't misunderestimate the power of 350...

One of the things I love about working at CivicActions is getting to hear about great projects happening in the world. It makes my days seem a little more hopeful and inspired to know that there are really smart people doing really great things.

Beth's blog, a non-profit technology blog I've started reading just posted a donation by the "Digital Influence Group" who'll will donate $10 for every comment made on their blog. Easy enough...

Digg it! (anyway)

got an email from Beth clarifying it wasn't actually her blog that was doing the donating. still nifty, imho

Free Spin: Your taxes have already been raised

Submitted by Ian on April 5, 2008 - 8:57pm

The one trick elephant, aka the GOP, wants wants to CUT taxes to provide "economic relief" to American families as a "pre-growth" strategy. I'm still waiting for my $300 "relief" check, but I have a feeling that's not going to amount to a whole lot of economic growth...

We went to Bagdhad and blew a trillion dollars we don't have. Meanwhile, the dollar is in a coma and the only way Republicans seem to respond to the economic crisis is to continue to print and spend money.
